LOS ANGELES, CA (October 10, 2024) - Today, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) is excited to unveil the complete list of nominated productions for this year’s EMA Awards Gala, along with the 2024 honoree for environmental leadership -  Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, and NAACP Image Award-winning actress, Quinta Brunson.  EMA Board Member and actress Malin Akerman, alongside her co-star actor Dermot Mulroney for their upcoming rom-com Perfectly Imperfect, will host the esteemed event on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Radford Studio Center in Los Angeles. The ceremony brings together environmental trailblazers in television and film to celebrate sustainable achievements on set and on screen.

Comedian, actress, writer, and producer Quinta Brunson, renowned for her role in the highly decorated television series Abbott Elementary, will be honored during the special evening. EMA will present the 34-year-old with the EMA Futures Award, which recognizes young industry professionals for their influential voices and commitment to a greener lifestyle. She joins an esteemed list of past recipients, including Elizabeth Olsen, Nina Dobrev, Shailene Woodley, and Sienna Miller. Brunson’s knowledgeable and thoughtful approach to climate and sustainability is showcased through her talent in storytelling. Notably, in the last season of Abbot Elementary, she skillfully wove in a subtle yet impactful reference to climate change, highlighting the school's infrastructure struggling to cope with the rising outdoor temperatures. Her series reaches the most important demographic to affect true change in our global population, our youth and our families, and was honored with the EMA Paul Witt Comedy Award at the 2022 EMA Awards Gala.

“I’m truly honored to receive the EMA Futures Award,” said Quinta Brunson. “As someone who deeply cares about the environment, it means a lot to be recognized for using both my platform and my comedy to inspire change. I’m proud to be part of a community that values sustainability, and I’m excited to keep moving forward on a path toward a greener planet.”

“I’m so excited to return to the stage to host the EMA Awards this year,” said Malin Akerman. “Being on the EMA Board for over 15 years has informed my choices in every aspect of my life. As a mother, sustainability in our home not only keeps my family safer but teaches my son lifelong values. The EMA Awards is my favorite event of the year and always inspires me to look ahead with a renewed sense of purpose.”

The EMA Awards Gala commends leaders in the entertainment industry who are driving a more sustainable future, along with productions that set the standard for green practices. It also celebrates films, television series, and documentaries that use the power of storytelling to champion environmental justice, climate action, and sustainability. This year HBO leads with five total nominations. EMA continues its tradition of hosting the ceremony on a studio lot, where the magic happens. This year, for the first time, the event will take place at Radford Studio Center, a world-class facility operated by The MBS Group and home to some of the industry’s most beloved films and shows.

“The EMA Awards Gala is a time to celebrate environmental achievements in our industry and unite around a shared vision towards a more sustainable future," said EMA CEO Debbie Levin. “As the most visible industry in the global community, our storytelling and production standards lead other sectors. We’re so proud and excited to be celebrating the EMA Green Seal’s 20th anniversary this year and the program’s global influence. Today, there are sustainability groups and companies that assist in achieving the EMA Green Seal application and guidelines, green stewards and of course, departments at all studios across all industries. We created the EMA Green Seal to move the industry forward with sustainable actions behind the scenes and we are now the global standard in green production.”
